Requested Breakfast
at the Heights Jesus said, "Breakfast is
ready." John 21:12 Breakfast at the Heights is an outreach ministry from the biblical mandate of John 21:15-19. On Nov. 22 at 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. we will start with a Thanksgiving Breakfast that reminds us that we are forgiven disciples like Peter who the Lord calls to "feed my sheep." At that time, we will experience the free hot breakfast and brief worship time that will be the routine for the Breakfast at the Heights ministry. The Breakfast will be open to all and just like grace, there will be no charge and no limit for the pancakes, bacon, juice and coffee. Guests will be served by a team of volunteers (usually 6 plus a Breakfast Captain who will assign the volunteers and make sure things are running smoothly each week.) The team will arrive at 7:30, begin with a prayer, be given instruction in their various jobs, and then start serving at 8:00 am. At 8:30 the kitchen will close briefly for a time of worship (15 minutes) and then the serving and cooking resume until 9:00 when the kitchen closes and clean up begins. A ministry that welcomes our neighbors requires that we show our hospitality in a very intentional way. Our biblical mandate is to feed the sheep and to do unto the least of these as Christ has done for us. We are creating "a new comfort zone in God’s kingdom" under the steeple with the crown. The surprising benefit is that we will see Christ revealed in the sharing of this meal. "Same Kind of Different as Me" is an advent study that begins on Monday, Nov. 23 in the fellowship hall at the noon hour and will be a good introduction of the journey and the joy that lies ahead for those who serve at Breakfast at the Heights. Preparing for the Christ, we will make room in our hearts and in our church for the revelation that "God is with us." Twelve groups will be asked to provide volunteers. Each will provide volunteers once in a quarter for a total of 4 times a year. A 13th Sunday for families to serve together will be offered as well. The contact people of each group will receive a schedule and be asked if their group will participate. A reminder postcard will be sent 2 weeks before the scheduled Sunday. The Breakfast Captains will serve the first breakfast on Nov. 22 and again Nov. 29 with any who are interested. The group schedule will start with the first Sunday in December. A Breakfast Captain and your preacher will be there each week to provide prayer and instruction and to answer any questions. Funding for Breakfast at the Heights will be provided through gifts designated for the Breakfast ministry. The UMW has provided the seed money for the first few weeks and donations may be made at any time. All are welcome at the table. Blessings! Liz Talbert, a shepherd and pancake flipper Community
